Use Orbis Mail with Microsoft 365
Orbis Mail can connect to Microsoft 365 business mailboxes where your administrator allows IMAP and authenticated SMTP. Microsoft has been switching off password-based sign-in for these protocols, so check the requirements below first.
Connection settings
- Incoming mail (IMAP)
- outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
- Outgoing mail (SMTP)
- smtp.office365.com, port 587, STARTTLS
- Username
- Your full Microsoft 365 email address
- Password
- Your mailbox password, or an app password if your organisation uses them
Good to know
- Personal Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts no longer accept password sign-in over IMAP, so they cannot currently be connected.
- Organisations that have fully disabled basic authentication will not be able to connect until Orbis Mail supports Microsoft sign-in. Contact us if this applies to you.
Step by step
- 1
Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to confirm IMAP and Authenticated SMTP are enabled for your mailbox.
- 2
In Orbis Mail choose Add mailbox, then pick Microsoft 365 / Outlook.
- 3
Enter your email address and password (or app password).
- 4
Run the connection test. If it fails, your organisation may require modern authentication only.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Orbis Mail support Outlook.com or Hotmail?
- Not at the moment. Microsoft requires its own sign-in process for personal accounts, which Orbis Mail does not support yet.
- My connection test fails. What should I check?
- Ask your administrator whether IMAP and Authenticated SMTP are enabled for your mailbox, and whether your organisation blocks basic authentication.
